Happy New Year! (and a new Union Jack)

Happy New Year 2012!

Since Thanksgiving weekend I've been dying to turn these lights on for New Years Eve!

Speaking of going into the New Year transformed...

We picked up this table for our record player to have a simple little home in the living room but it needed something.... and that something was a Union Jack!

Thanks to this fantastic website the how-to was easy once measured, drawn, and then taped.

Here is our how to....

Pencil sketches and the initial taping...
Used a 24" x 10" square
The diagonals are each 1/2 inch (.5 - i heart you metric system btw) wide... you can see more dimensions in the attached chicken scratch... again, use this for full reference...
Full out taped borders.  Used 2" tape for the edges, 1" for the insides...

First coat... Red...
Tags indicate next colour.. the blues...
Now we've got the blues...
The blues without the tape... hmm, those are tight corners...

Tiiight!

And this is where it got tricky... did we continue and paint the white in or leave the wood?
Two out of three colours wasn't bad - did we dare go on?
Phase 1 of white...

Phase two of white...

We're so glad we did the white!

Niiice...
The reveal...

I flipped the camera upside down to get the flash on the knob to show it's detail
so that's why the white is looking yellow'd in this image.

Well, that's it, we're off to 2012 and beyond
and to find a new table for the record player to sit on!!!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
